DESCRIPTION: APW - Waltham, unusual Model 1857 with ornately engraved balance cock and barrel bridge, marked "Charles M. Fisher, No. 1859," 16J, 18S, coin silver OF recase, white enamel DS dial with evidence of signature removal, KWKS, gilt mvt, marked "No. 1859" as date rather than s#, partial disassembly reveals underside of balance cock and barrel bridge are not marked with s# while the dial plate is marked with two-digit s#63. A very interesting and attractive custom made early Model 1857 movement with its eye-catching fancy barrel bridge engraving. This movement's features of an early style split bi-metallic balance wheel and its 16th jewel on the center pinion under the dial are also found among some early Appleton Tracy & Co. grade production and are consistent with a production date of 1859. We have not uncovered any info on who Charles M. Fisher was and if he may have had a connection with the American Watch Co., but this would certainly be worthy of further research.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, few fine scratches, some small surface spots and mild bits of clouding in small areas; dial center section with evident polishing marks where a signature was likely removed, dial with scattered hls, dial segments have been re-glued; excellent hands, hour with some bend; case shows ample wear, scratches to cuvette around key hole, shallow dents to rear and cuvette, largely reduced engraving detail; tight replacement bow; good glass crystal.
ESTIMATE: $800 - $1400
